Jane Van Der Voort, Toronto Star: August 26 2009

But Japanese footwear designer Amaort has put a twist on rubber boots. This summer the foldable rain boot is making a splash in rained out Toronto.

So this summer’s been straight @%!#!!!, I mean it’s been a really crappy summer. First we have the ever-changing weather, then of course summer’s latest accessory: RAIN.

So where did I end up? After weathering many a storm with nothing but sodden shoes and socks, I finally decided to bite the bullet and go back to Get Outside and find something (anything!) that would suffice. And then -- there they were, standing tall and nobly near the back, the ever-practical packable Amaort Boots from Japan (about $100).

Sandals for MEN
Sandals aren’t very appealing to me, especially to wear. I’m sure others have the same sentiment, but why?
Toronto Styles: June 20 2009

For me, sandals means no socks which means no protective barrier from dust or dirt or sand around as well as protective barrier for those who have foot odor. And who really wants to see other people’s toes - especially men’s toes?

Amy Verner: June 16 2009

At Get Outside, a Toronto shoe store on a buzzy stretch of Queen Street West, manager Shauna Beaton says that brands such as Hunter, Sperry and Red Wing have found a new client base among twentysomethings while still attracting a more mature buyer.

For every customer who knows that Hunter supplied First World War soldiers with rubber wellies, however, there's another who is simply buying the boots because they're comfortable – and popular, she adds. “In the U.K., Hunters aren't as much of a fashion item as they are here,” Beaton notes.

Shoes that shine remain on trend
Nathalie Atkinson: June 06 2009

Two years ago Jay-Z wore a pair of gold foil kicks in Rihanna's Umbrella video. The hip-hop Midas inspired everyone from Adidas to Yohji Yamamoto to gild their sneakers. (In the absence of hightops, Pierre Hardy gilded his signature desert boots instead.) A slew of shoes riffing on Michael Johnson's original molten golden Nike Zoomz of 1996 flooded the streets. Then, just when we thought the gold rush had abated, Pharrell appears in Undefeated Pumas and the gilt trip is back, at least on the dock, this summer. The streamlined new Converse All Star Lights come burnished in antique gold, worn in ads by Metric's Emily Haines (though sadly, only available in the U. S.), and new for lounging around the marina this summer are two takes on humble, classic deck staples: perforated metallic gold suede Champion lace-ups from Keds, and gilded Sperry Top-Sider boat shoes ($49.99 and $79.99, at Getoutsideshoes. com and other Canadian retailers).

Well, now they do – Boot Socks are like a sweater for your feet and they add a pop of colour to your favourite wellies!

You can't dispute the usefulness of rain boots, but insulation is a problem. Now, there's a solution.
Nathalie Atkinson, National Post: March 14 2009

There's at least a month of April showers, squishing around the garden and puddle-jumping ahead of us before new spring shoes can come out and play. Wet and slushy means donning rubber boots -- except it's still so cold outside!

Hot New Things
When that crazy, tornado-rain-storm hit Toronto last week, I was out renting movies, six blocks from my house. I was wearing sandals and the streets got flooded to my ankles.
Women's Post: November 30 -0001

After the fact, I heard about Amaort wellies. They’re those stylish Wellington rainboots but you can fold them and keep them in your purse. You need a pretty large purse to put them in, but they do fold up into a bag. If I had a pair it would have been unbelievably convenient, and I wouldn’t have ruined my pedicure walking home in that storm. They’ll set you back about $100.
